Susan Hampton (b.1949) was born at Inverell, New South Wales. In 1979 she won the Dame Mary Gilmore award. She studied at Sydney University and has a BA Hons. in English. She has received a number of grants from the Literature Board of the Australia Council, and has one son. Her first book of poems was Costumes, published by Transit New Poetry (John Tranter) in 1981, and she has published volumes of prose and poetry, and has co-edited (with Kate Llewellyn) the Penguin Book of Australian Women Poets(1986).
