Welcome to the homepage of APRIL

…the Australian Poetry Resources Internet Library. This research project was funded in 2006 with a major Linkage Grant from the Australian Research Council. Professor Elizabeth Webby (University of Sydney English Department) and Creagh Cole (University of Sydney Library), in association with CAL (the Copyright Agency Limited), will head a team of researchers to build a permanent and wide-ranging library of resources on the Internet by 2010. The research focus is Australian Poetry: Production, Distribution and Reception. The project aims to increase the circulation, reading and understanding of Australian poetry within Australia and internationally.

This site will provide reliable texts of a wide range of poems by contemporary and earier writers as well as contextual and critical material, including interviews, photographs and recordings.

Collaboration with the Copyright Agency Limited and use of new Digital Object Identifier technology will allow copyright owners to receive payment for the printing of material still in copyright, thus solving the major problem associated with making this material accessible on the internet.

Detailed information is available on the aims of the project, its history, its staff, technical issues, and many other matters. Please explore the site by using the links in the panel to the right.
